Community Life

At Inner West you'll find heaps of ways to live, love and serve within your local community. We believe that by working together and supporting each other, we can build a community that is vibrant, compassionate, and full of hope.

Here are some initiatives that are already happening – get involved!

Inner West Play

Coffee, Chat & Play

Parenting young children is such a joy, but you might also find it hard and isolating. Inner West Play is a space for parents and carers to connect with each other, while their kids enjoy soft play, toys, and games. It is open to children aged 0-4, and is run by a team of trained and accredited volunteers.

Flemington People's Pantry

Serving those in need

Inner West supports the Flemington People's Pantry, which operates out of our gathering site at Newmarket Baptist Church.

The People’s Pantry is a food rescue and redistribution project run by and for members of the Flemington/ Kensington and Ascot Vale public housing estate communities.

Now over a decade old, the People’s Pantry was started, in part, as a response to a study of food insecurity in the City of Moonee Valley conducted by Deakin University in 2009.

A diverse group of local volunteers experiencing un/under-employment order, collect and redistribute 1 to 1.5 tonnes of food to 75-100 households each Wednesday, (February-Christmas) in a festive, multi-cultural, multi-faith, ‘food swap’ environment.

Participants register over tea and coffee from 12.30pm in the old Newmarket Baptist Church Sanctuary at 12 Brighton Street Flemington. After the ballot is drawn at 2pm. participants choose a hamper of food from fresh fruit and vegetables, fridge and frozen, dry goods, milk and bread between 2 -3.30pm.

Gospel Groups

Going deeper

Do you long to grow into a deeper spiritual life? Do you find it hard to connect your faith into your lived experiences of work, family, relationships, and leisure? You're not the only one, and the best way to grow is with others on the same path.

Gospel Groups are groups of 3-5 people who meet up regularly to go deeper into the gospel – the good news of Jesus. Their goal is to deepen understanding of the Scriptures, invest in personal discipleship to Jesus, and open hearts to greater love for God.
